Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur attracts talent: nearly 13,000 new residents every year, and half of them are aged under 40. This places the PACA region third among the most attractive regions for middle-management, with already more than 200,000 executives living in the area.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is the 2nd-largest region for business-creation, with 68,000 businesses set up in 2009 and 200 businesses granted the status of “innovative young business” – third among France’s regions. This dynamism is also revealed in the numbers of trademarks, models and patents registered; 659 patents applied for in 2009.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur can count on staff who are efficient, constructive and close to hand. PACA is the second most productive region in France (GDP generated per job) and stands out for its very lively energy in collective negotiation with more than 70,000 agreements signed in 2009.

PACA invests in higher education and research with a budget that has tripled in 10 years. It counts 157,000 students, 26,500 jobs in R&D including more than 17,000 researchers, and 300 public research laboratories, with projects unique in the world such as ITER and ANTARES (particle physics). PACA also offers a range of disciplines providing all the necessary skills, with 3 universities (including the largest in France, Aix-Marseille, with 70,000 students), 14 engineering colleges, 8 business schools and more than 30 public and private establishments welcoming international students - including the brand new international school in Manosque, which already has more than 400 pupils.

Finally, PACA is a region where employees make an effort. It is France’s leading region in the use of the sandwich course, all levels combined.
